What can we use career insights for?

Career insights is an opportunity to pick your selected mentor's brains in terms of their experiences and achievements in their chosen career path.

How do we keep track of time?

To ensure correctness of timings, we suggest the mentee/mentor takes a screenshot of start and end times for the sessions.

How do we ensure quality of our mentors?

Mentors are put through a thorough screening process which involves vetting and verification of their CVs, and professional references. They are then interviewed by FutureLab to assess the requisite knowledge and experiences to adequately address queries from students and job seekers.

How does Futurelab benefit mentees?

FutureLab provides the bridge for mentees to access information, answers to queries and structured feedback with regards to their career choice.

What is FutureLab?

FutureLab is a global online mentoring platform that helps connect job seekers and students to mentors who can provide them with informal advice on how to land a job in their industry or company.

How do we get our mentors?

Our mentors are sourced from various industries who are top performers in their respective companies. They are passionate on helping others whilst giving back to society.

What are mentor tiers?

At FutureLab we believe that no matter at what stage of your career you are in, there is always someone to speak to and get advice on how to advance by seeing things from a new light or getting validation for your existing goals.

Our mentor tiers is based on the number of industry experience that a mentor has.

Tier 1
Have 1 - 3 years industry experience and are ideal for fresh graduates wanting to understand the CURRENT job application.

Tier 2
Have 3 - 5 years industry experience and tend to be consultants/ senior associates of a company.

Tier 3
Have 5 - 10 years industry experience and tend to be managers/ senior managers.

Tier 4
Have 10 years or more industry experience and they are normally at top of the career ladder - Directors, VPs, CEOs, Partners, etc. with vast experience in a given industry.

What services can a mentor offer?

Mentors can choose to offer the following online services:

  1. Career Insights: Mentors will answer questions that you have about their company/industry and share with you their own personal career experience.
  2. CV/ Coverletter Tips: Provide constructive feedback on a mentee`s CV and provide tips that has worked for the mentor when they were applying for jobs.
  3. Practice interviews: Practice makes perfect and having a practice session with former/ current employees is invaluable.


For The Mentees

How do I pick a mentor?

We recommend speaking to mentors that has work experience that you would eventually like to do as a career or has studied similar degrees to what you are studying (dependent on what stage of your careers you are in - Read about mentor tiers). If you have no idea what you want to do, we suggest you look around and pick a session with a few mentors whose profile stands out to you from different industries, you never know where you might get inspired.

Why should I get a mentor?
  1. Helps increase the mentee's self-confidence.
  2. Helps the mentee learn to take better control of his or her career.
  3. Teaches the mentee how to speak up and be heard.
  4. Educates the mentee on how to accept feedback in important areas, such as communications, technical abilities, change management, and leadership skills.
  5. Improves the mentee's interpersonal relationship skills.
  6. Provides an important networking contact for the mentee.
  7. Helps the mentee better understand the organization's culture and unspoken rules, both of which can be critical for success.
How do I get the most out of the mentoring session?

As a mentee, make sure you read up on the mentor's profile and prepare the questions you would like to ask before hand and write down notes during the session. Remember to have an open mind when speaking to the mentor and receiving feedback. Remember that the mentor is just sharing his/her personal experience and what worked for them. Mentees should take the advice and tweak it for your own situation.

What can I ask a mentor?

Whatever you are curious about regarding your career! Some examples are: How did you decide to get into this line? What are the daily tasks you carry out? What is the hardest part about your job? What do you love most about your job? What's the job application process like?

What if you have no idea about what you want to do?

We believe that the more questions you ask the clearer your mind would be in terms of career goals. Therefore, by speaking to more mentors you will be able to figure out what you like and dislike. Hence able to make an informed decision about your career path.


For The Mentors

Can I get paid as a mentor?

Yes, eventually mentors will be able to charge for their services but the price will be controlled by FutureLab to ensure that mentors do not charge an excessive amount.

Why should I become mentor?
  1. Allows the mentor to "give" back to society.
  2. Reminds the mentor how to listen actively rather than passively.
  3. Encourages the mentor to share knowledge, which helps increase the mentor's sense of self-worth.
  4. Strengthens the mentor's interpersonal relationship skills.
  5. Teaches the mentor about other companies & industries.
  6. Helps re-energize the mentor's career.
  7. Leads to more personal satisfaction on the mentor's behalf.

How do I prepare for a session?

Mentors can prepare for their session by reading and understanding why the mentee has booked your time. This can be found on the mentor dashboard under bookings. From there, the mentor can prepare the required materials needed to help the mentee.

Rules of a mentor.

Do's

  • Be on time!
  • Be culturally sensitive.
  • Set boundaries - you are here to mentor on school, career, applications. Not relationships or personal problems.
  • Find a mentor yourself.
  • Practice active listening and observation.
  • Share your own experiences (both successes and failures).
  • Be unbiased - (Pro`s & Con`s of a company/industry/career path).

Don't

  • Don`t solve personal problems.
  • Be afraid to mentor someone older.
  • Don`t judge your mentee.
  • Don`t be pushy or rude.

Pricing

How do I purchase sessions?

To purchase sessions, choose a package that is suitable for you, and make the payment via credit/ debit card.

Does session have an expiry date?

All sessions expire after 1 year

Can I refund my session?

No, once a session is purchased there will be no refund.

When will I be billed?

Upon purchased you will be billed immediately.

How do I make payment?

Payments are only allowed through credit/ debit card and bank transfer currently.

Can I change my subscription plan?

To change your subscription plan, go to account settings and choose to upgrade or downgrade the plan.

How do I get more credits?

If you have run out of credits, choose one of the three available top-up plans to get more credits.

Can I transfer my credits to another account?

No, credits are tied only to your account.


Top Up

Can I top up without subscribing?

Top up features are only available to subscribed users.

How do I get more credits?

Choose one of the 3 available top-up plans to get more credits.

How long does the top up credits last?

All credits have 6 months validity.

Can I top up at anytime?

Yes, if only you are a subscribed member.


Promo Code

How can I use the promo code?

Key in your promo code on pyament summary.

Can I use multiple promo code?

Yes, however only the highest discount promo code will be used.

Can the promo code be reused?

The promo code can only be used once by all subscribers.

What can I use the promo code for?

Promo codes can only be used for subscription plans. It doesnot apply to top ups and events.

How can I use student discount?

Apply for a student discount on our subscription page and inlcude your university email address.


Events

Can I attend FutureLab events without subscribing?

Events are only open to FutureLab subscribers.

How can I purchase event tickets?

On our event page, you will be able to purchase tickets using your credits.

How often do events take place?

We will try our best to host one event per month.

Is the event ticket transferable?

To transfer a ticket, get in touch with us. Terms and conditions will vary based on events.

Can I get a refund if I can't attend?

All purchased tickets are non-refundable.

Can I purchase more than 1 ticket?

Yes, you can.


Refund

Can I get a refund for a subscription purchase?

There will be no refunds for initial subscription. However for recurring subscription, we can refund provided there is a valid reason.

Can I get a refund for top ups?

There will be no refunds for top ups.

Can I get a refund if I cancel a booking?

We will refund through credit points only if the booking is still pending. If the booking has been accepted by the mentor, a refund of credit points will take place if the session is cancelled by the mentor.

Can I get a refund if I can't attend the event?

All purchased tickets are non-refundable.
