Hey Celeste,
I can only speak for FutureLab but when we are assessing candidates we tend not to look at their degree, instead we are very interested in their relevant skill sets for the role that we are hiring for. It is also important that the candidate is able to demonstrate their ability to use these skills in an internship, side project or previous job. Startups / SMEs are generally more open to candidates without a degree - larger multinational companies tend to have a criteria that candidates need to hit for example having a specific degree and meeting a certain grade criteria before they look at your CV

Hi Celeste,
Just to share in our Company, formal qualification is good but not a mandatory requirements. We do hire people without a formal degree but having some sets of important credentials like integrity, social skills, great attitude etc as we believe skills and knowledge can be learned a long the ways.

Hi Celeste, I know that this question is dated a little bit but just want to let you know that with your certificate in Next Academy + work experience , you are able to transform that skills and experience into a Diploma Kemahiran or Advance Diploma. It is a nationwide recognized certificate given by Jabatan Kemahiran Malaysia.
So even without official certificate from university , you may still have a certificate through work experience + verification exam, in case in the future your path need you to have an official scroll, you may consider it as an option

Hey Celeste! I'm currently a practicing web developer who also went through to bootcamp at NEXT Academy with no prior coding skills. I can share some of my personal experience. If you're going for corporate positions, they usually require some form of degree certification. Startups tend to be more open with bootcamp graduates. Some companies will put up degree requirements in their job postings, but they're there to "filter out the masses". They're often very happy to interview you if you apply anyway. Coming to more technical side: In terms of career growth, you'll definitely need to be passionate and put in the effort to learn and grow. It's very easy to tell whether someone is doing it for the sake of doing it. More so if you've only just freshly graduated from a coding bootcamp. On top of that, you also need to catch up with 3 years of degree that your peers have gone through. That being said, don't be discouraged if being a developer is something you'd like to pursue. I've met great developers that came from coding bootcamps. There will definitely be times when you feel inadequate and not as good as your peers. It's a very common feeling among developers regardless of education background. We refer to it as imposter syndrome (feel free to read more about it), but don't let it break you down. It gets to the best of us every so often. But remember that, nobody knows everything in software engineering and you probably know something that other developers don't. You just have to keep coding and learning. Sometimes you breakdown, take a break and come back, don't give up. I loved my experience at NEXT Academy and I am thankful for what they have provided me with. I try my best to help new developers, and contribute to open source projects as a way to give back. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! All the best with your journey!

Hi Celeste, I agree with Brian. Just to add, what is important for you is to be able to showcase what you have learned (evidence). An employer is looking to see if you actually know your stuff because the paper/certificate does not necessarily do that in today's world. It would be good for you to build a portfolio or find a way to showcase your projects.
