My role in this organisation was to help catalyse innovative responses to address societal challenges through research and capacity building in collaboration with the public, private, academia and social sectors.
Key social innovation (SI) initiatives that I was involved in were as follows:
1. Crowdsourcing innovation via UReka platform - Nurtured innovative thinking among the public, particularly the youth, through crowdsourcing solutions and strategic partnerships. Some of the challenges that we have completed include designing meaningful products & services, 3D printing and prototyping, social innovation and creative writing.
2. Empowering social participation - Introduced new financial model and social impact measurement toolkit for social service delivery through public-private partnership (PPP). The initiative was accepted as the National Blue Ocean Strategy and recognised as a "game changer" in the 11th Malaysia Plan. Other reports published include the Social Impact Measurement Toolkit (2015), Social Financing Roadmap (2015), National Key Social Outcomes Frameworks (2005) and Social Finance Feasibility Report (2014).
During my tenure as a social innovation manager, I was also involved in the agency's Innovating Malaysia Conference for 2 years in a row. In the second year, I helped drive our first sold-out public forum on the rise of impact entrepreneurship with the attendance of speakers/partners from Hong Kong, Singapore, Portugal and Germany. In the same month, I led the proposal submission to OECD Korea (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and was selected out of 12 other government agencies from around the world to attend a capacity building programme on social entrepreneurship and impact investment.
