Questions employers ask

When does the MIDA succession plan requirement take effect?

The requirement to submit and comply with a succession plan starts on 1 January 2027. MIDA describes the time before then as a chance for organisations to prepare and align their workforce plans.

Which Employment Pass categories need a succession plan?

The Expatriate Services Division's policy summary marks Employment Pass Categories II and III as needing a succession plan. Confirm how the requirement applies to each application with MIDA, MYXpats or an immigration adviser.

What should a succession plan contain?

The official FAQ names four core elements: the positions and functions to transfer to local employees; training, mentoring and knowledge transfer; a reasonable timeframe to build capability; and a plan to keep operations running through the handover.

Is naming a local successor enough?

No. The official description asks for more than a name. It calls for a structured plan that prepares local employees through skills development, mentoring, knowledge transfer, a timeline and continuity planning.

How can we show knowledge transfer is happening?

The official FAQ refers to documentation, periodic reporting and assessments by the relevant agencies. Until detailed submission guidance is published, keep role maps, development goals, mentoring records, training activity, capability evidence and review notes together.

Can FutureLab confirm that our company is compliant?

No. We can support the mentoring, knowledge-transfer and record-keeping parts of your plan, but we don't give legal or immigration advice. Confirm your obligations and the submission format with MIDA, MYXpats or your immigration adviser.
